Hello and thank you for visiting my website.
My love for photography began early when I received my first camera as a gift at age six. My old photo albums are filled with pictures I took of my daddy and little brother (mama, who was a bit camera shy, is missing).
I cherish those photos, but it was later that my childhood hobby became something more. At age 18, I placed second in a nationwide photography contest and had my prize-winning work published in a teen devotional, which made me think for the first time about what I could do and where I could go if I pursued photography more seriously.
In the fall of 2002, I enrolled at Randolph Community College, which is one of the top five schools for photography in the United States. While there, I obtained internships which gave me a lot of professional experience, including taking photographs for Klaussner Furniture, Sam’s Club, JC Penney, CostCo and Sofa Express. I had a blast going on photo shoots, attending the High Point Furniture Market and designing and decorating sets.
Also around that time, I accepted a friend’s request to photograph her wedding. Although with no previous wedding photography experience the assignment was initially nerve-wracking, by the end of the day, I’d discovered that taking photographs of people was much more interesting than photographing sofas.
I graduated from Randolph Community College in 2004 with a degree in commercial photography, but the excitement and adrenaline rush I felt from that first wedding never left me and, through word of mouth, I got more wedding and portrait work.
My passion for photography only grows stronger and in 2006, I officially launched Hillary Graves Photography.
I still love to photograph inanimate objects but photographing people is much more rewarding. I’m never without a camera now and my friends will tell you that if I am, something is wrong.
